Two essential parts of your Online marketing campaign, both do the same job which is driving traffic back to your website, both are content rich and hopefully well written. Both are picked up by Google, sometimes Press releases can be picked up in Hours rather than days. Both have archives as in a Press room where all your previous articles are held, so someone who reads your article can see your past articles too.
So what’s the main difference?
Blogs are personal, they come from the heart and the best ones are the ones where you feel you have never read this info before, and us bloggers can sense a ‘well spun’ article, we all do them, but you can not spin information without having a deeper understanding about the subject, it’s like going back to school you learn so much from researching other articles for information for your blog. However to prove the point this blog is coming straight off my head.
Press releases on the other hand are favoured by Google, they are expecting news and facts from it, so it ranks above a blog, and because of the keywords you add in to Press releases, it’s easier for Google to see, (Robots are essentially lazy, they look for the easy way out, if your info is laid out easy for them, the better for you, so they can get back to Google’s cozy office and sit on a bouncy ball and feed the fish, whatever). Press releases are written differently, try to imagine you have an Editors cap on big cigar bellowing at your staff (ok the imagination has run riot, just get a shot of Spiderman will you). It a news article and it has to be written like a magazine or a newspaper article. It should be less personal and with stated facts. Interviews work well. Interview your subject, get their personal story, but remember as the writer it’s not about you.
